About The Position
Job Title: Pharmacist Profession: Pharmacy Specialty: Staff Augmentation Duration: 52 weeks Shift: Multiple shifts Hours per Shift: 7:00 AM - 2:30 PM and 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM, rotating every other week Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: Current and valid license to practice pharmacy Certifications: Must complete continuing pharmacy education as required by state regulations Must-Have: Ability to lift 20+ lbs Description: The pharmacist accurately and timely compounds, counts, and dispenses drugs, chemicals, and pharmaceutical supplies as prescribed by licensed practitioners. This is done in accordance with federal and state laws and certifying agency standards. The pharmacist reviews drug therapy for appropriate dosage, duration, drug interactions, and adverse effects based on patient records and medical profiles. The pharmacist contacts physicians and professional staff regarding patient records or medication issues. Assisting in the development of policies and procedures to increase efficiency and accountability is a core duty. Responsibilities include overseeing the delivery and shipment of drugs. The pharmacist orders drugs and supplies to maintain sufficient stock, reviews expiration dates, and returns outdated merchandise. The pharmacist inspects ward stocks and crash carts to ensure compliance with standards and maintains the security of all stock, including controlled drugs. Utilization of pharmaceutical software is required to maintain mandated records and reports of all drugs dispensed. The pharmacist prepares and submits periodic reports, types labels, edits and revises the hospital medical formulary, and attends staff meetings and continuing education seminars. Keeping institutional staff updated on new drug information is essential. Additionally, the pharmacist acts as a lead worker over assigned pharmaceutical staff. Knowledge of pharmacy laws and rules governing the distribution of drugs, chemicals, and pharmaceutical supplies is crucial. Skills in operating a personal computer and understanding medical variables to determine possible drug interactions are necessary. The ability to read and comprehend medical and pharmaceutical texts, manuals, and journals is also essential. Unusual working conditions may include the need to come into the facility after hours or exposure to challenging patient interactions.
