Job Description
Provides assistant as a member of the Grocery Team to including assisting customers during the checkout process, performing all cash register functions, bagging groceries, and working at customer service, cleaning the floor, sanitation, and stocking of products,receiving products. All MAIDO jobs require ensuring a positive company image by providing excellent and memorable customer service. All positions must be prepared and able to perform the duties inherent in other Team Member job descriptions. We are looking for someone who likes Japanese food/goods and likes interacting with people. If you can work 3 - 5 days a week (6 - 8 hour shift), please consider applying for this fun position.

Grocery Clerk job duties and responsibilities

• Assist supervisors in controlling customer flow and backed up lines; help to reduce waiting time for customers.
• Provide excellent customer service and address the needs of customers in a timely and effective manner.
• Follow proper procedures for customer check out, handling of tenders, use of tares, and use of PLUs and UPCs.
• Follow all cash handling procedures.
• Maintain a safe, clean and well organized working and shopping environment.
• Maintain back stock in good order.
• Maintain accurate department signage and pricing.
• Ensure a fresh and appealing display by keeping cases and shelves clean and well stocked by front-facing, checking codes, rotating, and removing out-of-date products.
• Operate and sanitize all equipment in a safe and proper manner.
• Follow established procedures to report errors in retail pricing or signage.
• Responsible for ensuring the shelves are well-stocked with fresh, high-quality products for customers
• Communicate with customers to resolve complaints or ensure satisfaction
• Take orders and explain the food menu for phone orders
• Maintain the tables, workplace, and back storage to be clean, safe, and organized
• Greet customers and respond to their inquiries courteously
• Label product information and date accurately for produce and meat
• All other necessary duties assigned

Requirements

Grocery Clerk job skills and qualifications

• Prior experience in a grocery establishment
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Highly developed interpersonal skills
• Working knowledge of point-of-sale (POS) systems
• High level of stamina to work on feet for extended periods
• Ability to work well under intense time pressure
• Dedication to on-time arrival for shifts
• Available to work a variety of hours, days, and shifts, including weekends
• Ability to transport food or beverages to a table safely of three in a single trip
• Polite and hospitable attitude
• Ability to follow instructions and procedures
• Ability to sell proactively
• Ability to learn about Japanese foods and products
• Effective time management skills
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a sense of urgency
• Use of tools and equipment, including box cutters
