Job Overview – Substance Abuse Counselor

Compensation: $34 – $42/hour

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

TAG MedStaffing is hiring a Substance Abuse Counselor in Philadelphia, PA for our client, supporting substance abuse recovery, behavioral health services, and counseling initiatives within an adult behavioral health environment. This role will provide individual and group counseling services, case management support, and recovery-focused care for individuals receiving substance abuse and behavioral health services. The ideal candidate is compassionate, organized, and experienced working within addiction recovery or behavioral health settings.

Responsibilities as the Substance Abuse Counselor:

• Individual Counseling: Provide individual counseling and therapeutic support services to individuals receiving substance abuse treatment services.
• Group Therapy: Facilitate group therapy sessions focused on recovery, sobriety, coping strategies, and behavioral health support.
• Case Management: Manage an assigned caseload while coordinating services and recovery support resources for program participants.
• Recovery Support: Assist individuals with developing recovery goals, relapse prevention strategies, and treatment planning initiatives.
• Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with agency, program, and regulatory standards.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with behavioral health teams, clinical staff, and community providers to support continuity of care and treatment planning.

Qualifications for the Substance Abuse Counselor:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling, Addiction Studies, Social Work, or a related field is required.
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience within a healthcare, behavioral health, or substance abuse treatment environment is required.
• Certifications: Active pursuit of PCB credentials (CAAC, CADC, CAADC, CCS) or related licensure/certification is required.
• Industry Knowledge: Experience supporting individuals with substance abuse, addiction recovery, behavioral health, or dual diagnosis conditions is preferred.
• Skills & Attributes: Strong communication skills, empathy, organizational abilities, counseling skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations are required.
