Starting Pay: $19.80 per hour + Eligible Shift Differential
The Behavioral Wellness Center at Girard is a leading provider of behavioral health and substance use disorder services in Philadelphia. We deliver trauma informed, evidence based care in a culturally responsive environment through inpatient, outpatient, and addiction recovery programs.
We are seeking a dependable and professional Intake Worker / Driver to join our Behavioral Intake Unit. This position serves as a critical link between admissions, patient access, and transportation services. The ideal candidate will have experience in healthcare, behavioral health, admissions, patient registration, transportation, customer service, or related fields.
This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working directly with patients, coordinating admissions, managing referrals, and helping ensure safe and timely transportation services throughout the organization.
Important: All new hires must be able to attend a mandatory 5 day orientation Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM before starting their schedule. Attendance is required for employment.
Greet and register incoming patients and referrals in a professional and timely manner
Collect, verify, and enter insurance, demographic, and clinical information
Coordinate admissions and placements with physicians, nurses, and referral sources
Obtain required patient consents and maintain accurate documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
Assist with intake screenings and admissions processes as assigned
Provide transportation for patients, staff, and laboratory specimens as needed
Maintain communication with external agencies regarding admissions and placements
Operate hospital vehicles safely and report maintenance concerns promptly
Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies
Support the overall operations of the Behavioral Intake Unit
Education
High School Diploma or GED required
Associate degree in Healthcare, Human Services, Behavioral Health, Business, or a related field preferred
Experience
Minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare admissions, behavioral health, intake, patient registration, transportation services, or a related field required
Previous experience with intake coordination, referral processing, patient access, admissions, or patient transportation strongly preferred
Knowledge of behavioral health, addiction recovery, or healthcare systems preferred
Licenses and Requirements
Valid driver's license required
Clean driving record for the past 3 years required
No DUI convictions within the past 5 years
Current automobile insurance required
Ability to successfully complete a driving assessment if required
Bilingual English and Spanish preferred but not required
Skills and Competencies
Strong communication and customer service skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Record systems
Excellent organization, time management, and multitasking abilities
Ability to work independently and professionally in a fast paced environment
Knowledge of HIPAA, insurance verification, admissions processes, and intake documentation standards preferred
Frequent interaction with patients, referral sources, and healthcare professionals
Combination of office based intake responsibilities and transportation duties
May involve local travel for patient, staff, or specimen transportation
Fast paced healthcare environment requiring professionalism and attention to detail
